現在世界的な大きな課題は、｢地球温暖化｣と「食糧とエネル
ギーの供給確保」である。アグリバイオがこれらの課題解決に
大きな貢献が期待されているところは広く認められているとこ
ろである。地球温暖化を減速させるには、植物によって固定さ
れる循環可能な炭素を利用するエネルギーの獲得である。これ
は、間違いなく地球環境に良い効果をもたらすものである。
これらは、２００８年７月７日から９日まで開催される世界の
リーダーの集まりである北海道洞爺湖サミットの主要課題であ
る。
　このG８サミットの開催に呼応して、NPO法人北海道バイオ産
業振興協会（HOBIA）は、多くの関連学協会とともに、これらの
緊急且つ重要課題について考えてきております。今回は、我々
が取りうる今後の方策をバイオ燃料、食糧供給、炭素排出削減
などについて考えるために、シンポジウムを開催する。

Bio-Summit
Agricultural Biotechnology for Improving
Environment in Sapporo

Among the most important issues in the world now are
“Global Warming” and “Food and Energy Supply”.
Agricultural biotechnology is expected to be one of the
tools which contribute to solutions of these issues. One of
the solutions toprevent global warming is the use of “Bio-
Energy.” By recycling plant-fixed carbon as energy is
considered to give a positive effect to our environment.
These issues are taken as the key areas to be discussed in
Hokkaido Toyako Summit in July 7-9 by the world leaders.
In accordance with this G8 Summit, NPO Hokkaido Bio-
industry Association (HOBIA) will hold “Bio-Summit –
Agricultural Biotechnology for Improving Environment” in
Sapporo on June 30, 2008. The Bio-Summit will give clear
views and recommendations what we can do for our
environment including subjects on bio-fuels, food supply,
and carbon sequestration.
